3rd March 2020: The Irish Planning Institute (IPI), the all island professional body representing planners in Ireland; the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), the independent professional body for Chartered Surveyors working and practicing in Ireland; and the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (RIAI), the regulatory and support body for architects in Ireland; have each nominated Joe Corr as a candidate for the forthcoming election to Seanad Éireann.
Joe Corr, who is the immediate past president of Irish Planning Institute is a non-party election candidate on Seanad Éireann’s Industrial and Commercial Panel. Previously, Joe was an Elected Member of Fingal County Council and also held the office of Mayor during his tenure.
Joe Corr said: “I am privileged to have been nominated by my own professional institute along with the professional bodies for Architects and Surveyors. Broadly the three organisations have positions on planning and the development of the built environment in Ireland and in this context are acutely aware of the needs for housing provision during a time of crisis. If elected to Seanad Éireann, I will use my term to campaign for sensible and workable policies in the development of the housing stock in Ireland. The support of the three bodies, along with my professional experience and previous experience as an elected councillor, provide a very solid foundation for an impactful contribution to the debate on housing.”
“The electorate for the Industrial & Commercial Panel is made up of TDs, Councillors and outgoing Senators so I am asking for the support and votes of all those who are interested in the sensible and appropriate development of housing to address the current national crisis in the sector.”
Ballot papers will be issued for the vocational panels on 16th March and polling closes on 30th March.
