WHERE JOE COMES FROM
Joe Corr is the immediate past President of the Irish Planning Institute and held the term from 2018 to 2019. Joe is an experienced Town Planner and holds an MSc in Spatial Planning from TU Dublin. He also runs his own planning consultancy in north County Dublin. Previously, Joe was an Elected Member of Fingal County Council and also held the office of Mayor during his tenure. He is married to Bridget and has two daughters.
Joe also has a keen interest in sustainable development, agriculture and rural and urban planning. Joe’s Presidency of the Irish Planning Institute coincided with numerous significant changes to the Irish planning system. He steered the Institute’s responses to major developments such as Project Ireland 2040, new Ministerial Guidelines on Height and Apartment Design, and the launch of the new Office of the Planning Regulator. He led the roll out of a significant CPD Program for Planners and Councillors covering major issues effecting the work of Planners and Councillors in areas such as delivering high quality density, plan making and new Environmental Directives.
As a professional planner and a former Mayor, Joe is uniquely equipped to deliver for Planning and Sustainable Development in Seanad Eireann. His rich experience, which draws on his private practice as a town planner, participation in the National Planning Framework and Office of the Planning Regulator working groups, promotion of housing development and sustainable rural communities will be a strong addition to Seanad Eireann. Joe is currently a candidate for the Seanad elections, nominated to the Industrial & Commercial Panel by the Irish Planning Institute. Joe’s motivation to run in the Seanad elections is based on a strong belief in improving the quality of life for everyone, and building sustainable communities required to give stability to the numerous people who are in the most urgent need of housing.
